Volunteering and Community Engagement

I'm currently part of the concrete team of the University of Calgary's GNCTR group. Throughout the semester, we research various design principles and technologies to incorporate into our sled, such as concrete additives, form-working techniques, and structural configurations with an emphasis on sustainability. We'll be competing against other university teams from January 29th to February 2nd, 2020 in Toronto.

I'm an apprentice with the Japanese drumming group Midnight Taiko-Kai, a non-proft dedicated to the sharing of Japanese culture through ensemble taiko drumming perfomance. Check out the group's website at www.midnight-taiko.ca.

I work closely with the onsite lead to complete various tasks involving the construction of the Habitat for Humanity build in Silver Springs, Calgary.

As an athlete with the University of Calgary Rowing club, I was provided with a structured training schedule that was split between on-water and dry land training. In 2014, I contributed to the development of a grant proposal submitted to the Student Union’s Quality Money initiative which successfully secured $177,190 of club funding over three years. Finally, I competed in many events and regattas across western canada including:

  • Alberta Indoor Rowing Championships, Red Deer, Alberta
  • Head of the North Saskatchewan, Edmonton, Alberta
  • Head of the Weasel, Calgary, Alberta
  • Western Canadian University Rowing Championships, Burnaby, British Columbia
  • Head of the Gorge and Head of the Elk, Victoria, British Columbia

As the Vice President of the Undergraduate Law and Society Association, I oversaw communication between the executive team and the membership about club events. I also organized events such as court visits and case sit-ins and compiled information about strategies to be accepted to law school. Finally, I helped the leadership team organize guest speakers to relay their stories and advice about the legal profession to the membership.
